Deen Hospital - Punalur

Deen Hospital was founded by Dr R V Asokan and Dr Laila Asokan in June 1983. It had originally functioned from the Nehru Memorial Municipal complex in TB Junction, Punalur. The current new building was completed in May 1999 with the financial support of KFC. Dr R V Asokan is a post graduate in General Medicine (MD). He did his MBBS and MD General Medicine from Madurai Medical College, Madurai, Tamilnadu. Dr Laila Asokan is a Post graduate in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (MD DGO). She took her MBBS from Madurai Medical College, DGO from Madras Medical College Chennai and MD (OG) from Stanley Medical College, Chennai. She had worked as a senior House surgeon in Railway Hospital Madurai for one year. She has special interest in managing infertility.

strength of 26. The hospital at present has 26 rooms. There is no General ward. Deen Hospital provides primary and secondary level care in General Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Both Outpatient services and In patient care are being provided. The hospital is in effect the professional practice of Dr R V Asokan and Dr Laila Asokan. In line with the above character a medical shop is not part of our hospital. The hospital abides by the legislations in statute for hospitals. The hospital holds necessary licences in this regard.

     The hospital has ECG facility and a laboratory handling bio-chemistry and haematology. A fully equipped labour room and a modern operation theatre with optimum facilities are functioning. The hospital has so far conducted 27518 deliveries since inception till 30.06.2022. Major surgeries (LSCS, Hysterectomy, Laparoscopic surgeries and urosurgeries, etc) are being performed. Gastroenterology OPD services are available on Wednesdays. Urology OPD services are available once in 3 weeks. Upper gastrointestinal duodenoscopy and Colonoscopy procedures are also performed. 24 x 7 casualty is capable of dealing with basic emergencies and providing first point of care services. The hospital has 18 paramedical staff, 3 Lab technicians , 13 cleaning staff and 13 non medical staff. There is a regular office for the administration of the hospital. Medical records are kept in paper format and electronic medical records have been consciously avoided to improve the quality of clinical service.
